Bewerbung

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

please accept this letter as my application for a volunteer project in 2018. Let me start giving you some insights about myself. My name is Emma, I am a seventeen year old student living in Germany. I was born in the USA and moved back to Germany with my parents when I was four years old. At the moment, I am visiting a German High School and will finish school with the degree of the Abitur in 2018.

Personally, I love all kinds of sports such as being a swim athlete for many years, doing classic ballet as well as modern dance for almost my entire life and also playing tennis. Additionally, I enjoy spending my time playing the flute but particularly I love listening to music of all kinds as well as participating in my school\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s chorus. Not least, I have a great passion for reading books of all genres but grown up in the Harry Potter era especially in the area of fantasy.

Ever since my early childhood my parents and I travelled around the world to various national and international cities and countries to show me the variety, diversity and significance of culture, history, religion and different ways of life. Having layed the basis for my desire to see and learn about other countries and people, they always encouraged me to have an open-minded and tolerant point of view but also to become a socially involved inquisitive person who greatly values family and friends.

When thinking about my future, it quickly became obvious that I would like to expand my knowledge and competencies by gaining work experience, improving my communication skills and self-reliance before attending university. At the same time, I would want to continue getting to know other people and countries and further doing something meaningful. As far as I am concerned, I believe that participating in such a volunteer project would mean embracing an opportunity that might not appear again. In this sense, volunteer projects in general seem to match perfectly my goals an give me the chance to learn valuable things for my whole life.

In particular, I am interested in a volunteer project in South Africa. Through our partner school engagement for a school in Benin I have gained early know-how about the needs of African students and their families within the last eight years. As a member of the student representation, I have organized and participated along with other students and teachers in diverse fund raising activities such as collecting Christmas presents, conducting sponsorship runs or summer festivals in order to collect money for investments in school equipment.

In addition, I attended the annual BalMUN (Baltic Model United Nation) conference 2017 in Germany. The underlying aim of the project is to simulate a U.N. congress where students from many countries such as Germany, Poland and the Neatherlands controversially discussed this year\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\'s topic: \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"On the journey to justice - Jeopardizing human judgement\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\" in different committees. As a member of the political committee representing South Africa I had the pleasure to gather many interesting insights about South African local living conditions and its political and human challenges.

Being born in the US and having a dual citizenship by birth has emphasized me feeling bonded to my hometown Atlanta. Therefore, it was a lasting experience when we travelled back to Atlanta but
also when I spend five months visiting a local High School in 2015. During my time there I gained a large amount of independency, many new friends, the ability to prevail in unknown situations, an improvement of my English skills likewise the flexibility to adapt to individual rules of my host family, at school and of social interactions in the American way of life. This time was especially beneficial to me because I was able to learn more about US history regarding Martin Luther King and his great significance while living and preaching in Atlanta.

Being asked about my preferences for potential volunteer projects that suit my personal interests and competencies best, I would name projects that allow me to work with children and young people by improving their living conditions through sports and education.

As a learning tutor for school starters I accompanied a 10-year old boy in his first year at secondary school by teaching him learning techniques to improve his organization and participation in class. During my voluntary work in the student representation we planned and implemented multiple projects such as a weekly project for refugees jointly doing creative work and sports.
Additionally, I worked as a baby-sitter for a family with four childen under the age of six requesting a good portion of creativity, the ability to assert oneself and patience. In general, all assignments were motivating to me and encouraged me to spend future time in similar areas.

Although I prefer to volunteer for a project in South Africa, I am not limited to this country or continent. South America and countries such as Chile or Equador are appealing to me as well based on experiences my brother and friends shared with me.

I am happy to provide corresponding reference letters regarding my work as a school tutor, baby-sitter, my participation at BalMUN as well as my internship at an international working company enclosed to this application.

I surely appreciate your time to review my application. In case of any questions please do not hesitate to contact me via phone or email. I would be more than happy to answer any additional inquiries you might have.

Finally, I very much would look forward to hearing from you and getting the chance to meet you personally to discuss potential project engagements.

Sincerely,
Emma
