Bewerbung

Hello,
I would like to introduce myself before I explain my motivation to apply for a volunteer service abroad,
to facilitate the appreciation of my motives. My name is Paula and I am 17 years old. I live with my family, my parents and my younger brother, in a small town in the west of Germany. Presently I am in the12th grade and will get my A-levels in 2018. My favourite subjects are sports and educational theory. These are my best subjects, too.
In my free time I train volleyball in a team twice a week. We play in a district league and play games once or twice a month. Every time we have a lot of fun, and also we spend time together when we are not playing volleyball. Likewise I meet my friends very often in my free time to spend time together, too. We go eating or chat and relax together. Meeting my friends is very important to me. I like to talk and laugh with them.
But sport and friends are not all I do and enjoy. I work as a volunteer for the German Red Cross. I work with handicapped people und help them to integrate into the society and into their ‘normal life’. Once a month I cook with a team of other volunteers with two different groups, a group of handicapped youngsters and a group of handicapped adults: first we go together shopping in the supermarket to get the ingredients we need and then we cook together, e.g. pizza, pasta or other delicious dishes. Also, we do different activities together, like going swimming, or to a zoo or to a leisure park. Additionally to these activities we offer special activities for handicapped kids between the age of six and twelve years in one week of the three school holidays. In these weeks we spend time with the kids and do activities according to their wishes. Mostly we go swimming or to a zoo, too, or do something they can\\\\\\\'t do very often, like going to a leisure park or play minigolf.
I like to do this kind of work. So many people cannot talk or do anything with people with handicaps, but I like it. I do not spend time with them because I have pity, but because I love to see these smiles in their faces, when I do just something small for them. I do it, because I like the feeling to help others with little things I can do.
Also, I work twice a week in a baker\\\\\\\'s shop to earn a little bit of money on my own for my free time activities.
These are some aspects of me. Against this background I would like to explain my motivation to apply for a volunteer service abroad: since a long time I have dreamed to see more of the world. I want to get away from the everyday life at home for a time. I want to meet new people from different cultures, to learn more
about their attitudes, customs and way of living. And I want to learn to speak another language more fluently. I am more of a down-to-earth person, so I prefer to learn with and from people while doing things together. And that is why I am intrigued with going abroad as a volunteer: to learn more about people in other parts of the world hands-on by doing something useful and not just by getting theoretical knowledge.
Already I have had the great opportunity to learn from the people I live with, and especially from the handicapped people I work with. But now I would also like to learn more from other people, whom I will most likely not meet otherwise than by doing volunteer work abroad.
As you can see I love it to work with people, people with handicaps, without handicaps, young people and adults. I find easily a topic to talk to everybody and I like to spend time with people. I am flexible, communicative, helpful and polite.
With these qualities I think can achieve very much in every project. So, I think I can be happy and useful wherever I am. And I expect that, when I come back, I will have a better understanding of people in other parts of the world, some of them have come here to find refuge, but I think I will also have a different view on our life in Germany.
I know it will be a bit of challenge for me to communicate in another language without faults, but I am ready for learning fast.
