Bewerbung

I am Lea, 17 years old, living in Berlin and eager to explore the world and learn how I can contribute. Why do I want to make a difference? Read on to find out.

I got the motivation to pursue a social year after I went on a three week long trip to Bolivia last summer. During the trip I worked voluntarily in an orphanage for boys in Santacruz and helped them with their homework, played soccer with them or just simply had a conversation with the children. I was fascinated by how friendly and open the boys where, even though most of them where living unfortunate lives. Some had never left the orphanage, which was a big shock for me and opened my eyes on how fortunate I am. Yet in this short period of time I observed how I could make them feel happy for a few moments. They began to get really excited to see me and eager to do the things I had planned with them. I was able to make them smile and laugh by simply sitting down and playing. This made me realize how little it takes to make an impact and to help. Until now, this experience plays a crucial role in my motivation for a social year.

I have had the privilege to live a very fortunate life. I grew up in different places around the world, and now I live in one of the most developed countries that exist. I have a family that cares about me, food to eat every day and a nice home to retreat to. I find it unheard-of that not everybody has access to a life like mine. I hope to alter this indifference at least a bit through a social year and share my opportunities with others.

Through a social year I want to contribute to a local project by introducing my multifaceted and multicultural personality which I have gathered through the course of my life. I want to bring in my ideas and perspectives, ultimately making the project that I will work on a successful one. I am a cheerful and open person who always tries to see the positive side of things. I know that voluntary projects can be cumbersome and difficult and sometimes little progress is seen or felt. I think that I have the strength to push forward and to go the extra mile because this is what motivates me. School has always been a priority in my life and I enjoy learning. I am a diligent and hardworking student that cannot leave a project unfinished. You can be sure that once I start something, I will focus on finishing the job with concentration and care.

I seek a healthy balance to everyday life in extracurricular activities such as playing soccer, the trumpet and the piano. I believe these skills can also be helpful while working on educational projects. I speak English and German fluently, while I see room for improvement in my level of Spanish. I got my passion for Spanish from a teacher I had in third grade who constantly encouraged us and made learning a new language very appealing. Since then, I have been eager to become fluent and am getting closer and closer to this goal. As I have lived primarily in Asia, I believe that the South American countries will offer me the right opportunity to contribute to society and to dive deep into a new culture.

As teaching is one of my career options, I intend to get a feeling on wether education fits to my personality. I like to see others making progress and sharing my knowledge with them. Just recently I pursued a training to become a certified teamer in an international summer camp. I truly enjoyed the course and received positive feedback about my ability to lead a team and to keep them engaged. I was told that I am cooperative, hardworking and very helpful. These characteristics will aid me in my social year.

Finally, I appreciate to get a chance to move forward in the process. As a child I wanted to change the world and make it a better place. But as I grew older I realized that this is not as easy. A social year will help me to realize at least part of my dream and alter the worlds of a few people positively, a first step of many more to come.

I hope that I was able to convince you and I am eager to plan my next steps!

Have a wonderful day,
Lea :)
